News – Emergency Preparation Supplies

Today is the last day for the Texas tax free weekend for emergency supplies. This is welcome for being preparation and supplies as the power grid had difficulties during the Winter Storms earlier this year. Additionally, with higher than expected power usage combined with the looming Hurricane season later this year and it could speed disaster for many.

Items went out of stock quickly. I had a generator in my cart at Sam’s Club before the midnight hour, but was away from my desk until 1 AM. By that point, the generator was already sold out. It is impressive as Sam’s Club does not have nearly as much traffic compared to a Home Depot or Lowes. In the end, I had to audible the line of scrimmage and get it at Home Depot for $200 more than Sam’s Club.

In the coming weeks, I will be putting together a poor man’s home standby generator. There is a lot of great information out there and after spending months combing through it, I demonstrate what I did.

Here are some good links to get started with. In terms of a big project, just think if it like a series of smaller sub projects.
